Polysilicon shortage-This decade's excuse for high cost of PV Solar

Polysilicon is made from the sand and is the main material in a solar cell. The shortage of polysilicon is from lack of production rather than raw material. The companies that manufacture polysilicon did not feel that there was a commitment to PV solar in the market place, therefore, were reluctant to produce it. The rise in interest in solar power in this decade has caused a shortage. The seven major production companies have pre-sold this product so the shortage will continue and the cost is going to remain high well into 2015. Supply and demand is an unpredictable occurrence. Many things can occur when supply does not meet the demand. The industry and market, meaning the consumer, will wait the 3 to 5 years for these production companies to catch up or the demand could drop off leaving their short sightedness in the dust. Possibly some innovative company will develop a solar panel that does not require polysilicon. Five years of research and development can make great strides in our technological world today.
Marketing experts of solar power have fallen asleep. We are all bombarded daily with products in the market place. Rarely do you see advertisements for solar power in the United States unless it is an electric company. Money moves the world. Is solar power just not profitable enough to market to individuals?
Meanwhile, individuals building their homes or converting their homes to solar power are paying ridiculous costs that depending on their age they will probably never recoup in their lifetime. Hence, there is very little incentive to "go solar".

http://www.offgrid-desert-living.com I love ATV riding in the desert with my dogs, exploring ruins, discovering new skills to use to improve our home. I am 50 something and all fear left in my 40's. I love to learn. I started riding a Harley and attended motorcycle mechanics school in my 40's. I see something of interest, I try it, I might be good at it.
